Men in black coming to Zimbabwe

Going down the streets of Mkoba, Gweru I met an army cadet, an old friend of mine. Obvious questions like what are you up to these days unleashed a torrent of fears. One could literary see the fear in his eyes. His job had turned into a prison for him. Ha-a Shamwari basa iri inhava ine madhodhi, kuti uirase nhava yako unoida, kuti uyichengete…. Irikunhuhwa Shamwari. (This job is like a bag full of human excretion, throwing it away, is not an option - you will lose you beautiful bag, keeping it is difficult, the smell from it is unbearable). Some of these officers support MDC but their job is to prevent MDC from growing.

There is no more freedom for him and others in his profession to hang out in nightclubs and social functions, even sleeping in their houses is also becoming dangerous. Between March 15 and 28, six police stations and Zanu PF offices in Mbare, Chitungwiza, Marimba, Sakubva and Gweru were petrolbombed, resulting in serious injury to police officers and damages to property.

These occurrences were blamed on MDC. The trillion dollar question is it the MDC or an errate son whose mother/father’s rib was broken by police or soldiers.

By the way there is a group called Democratic Resistance Committee. It is claimed to be linked to MDC but who knows. Unit N Police Camp in Chitungwiza was petrol bombed by members of this group on the 28 March 2007. This committee may as well be hired thugs or ZANU PF supporters trying to fan some fire on MDC clothes.

A parallel development to this, the Police Commissioner highlighted that the force is dangerously understaffed. It seems the only realistic solution to the government’s effort to secure manpower is to hire the Angolan Ninjas. These people are real thugs, brutal, and have no souls. Since they have no relatives in Zimbabwe , they will just come kill/maim people, get paid and get a free flight back to Luanda . Cde Kembo Mohadi has confirmed their arrival in April.

The Zimbabwean Herald reported that before the Mutare bombing, an officer on his way to a police station was confronted by youths, who verbally abused him and accused him of supporting the Government. He had to fire shots into the air in order to escape…

One wonders what would have happened if he had no gun?
