Irony rules the world

Taona Murenga writes... It is ironic to get a pay-advice-slip with a highlighted slogan; “Fighting Corruption is Everyone’s Business”, when literary you are getting nothing, yet you are expected to survive. Zimbabwean civil servants are taking home some $50 000.00 (less than US$20), while MPs are getting $120 000.00 (US$ 40) per month. 95% of the salary goes to pay rents and rates. By the way a family needs about US$ 120 to make through the month.

These workers need food, school fees and medication. Where do they get the money from? School teachers are busy exploring possible avenues to supplement their meager salaries. Those who can knit are knitting during class time. For the police, it is almost impossible to live without “Dealing” Broking, merchandising and stealing. If employed people are living on hook and crook, how are the unemployed people, old people and orphans surviving? Obviously due to over supply on the market, prostitution seizes to yield much.

Corruption is governing the country now, or is the government is breeding corruption? Either way the people will bring it down since “Fighting Corruption is Everyone’s Business”.

Of late, the world witnessed the death by hanging of Saddam and his disciples. Heartache, delight or indifferent, classify your feelings. Advocates of the abolition of death penalty were offended because it is an inhumane punishment. Not very ironic though, some of these principal advocates spearheaded the war which has killed thousands and still counting.

Those who support death penalty are ‘dismayed by lack the of dignity’ during their a recent hanging. Wow-w! What is the main idea behind hanging someone? Oh dignity, dignity… Now that there are 3,013 US soldiers killed, and 22,714 Wounded, and over 600,000 Iraq civilians killed let alone Iraqi uniformed forces' casualties – over 5,950… who will hang for these? This reminds me of statements about people under and above the law. I guess most Presidents will hang soon or later.
