Motherland Promotions Entertainment launches in Auckland

The word is out. Motherland Promotions Entertainment, an outfit specialising in African entertainment has launched in Auckland New Zealand. There is a clear departure from past efforts in Auckland that have seen many individuals trying to launch something on their own and then fizzle out in no time at all. Speaking from his base in Grey Lynn, Motherland Promotions Public Relations Manager François Byama says his company is a coalition of Africans from various African countries who all share the same passion of entertainment.” The realisation that people of African origin are limited in terms of where they can go to for entertainment is what brought us together. To establish ourselves in the market well, we have set goals that we want to achieve over the next two to three years. Ultimately we want to be in a position to bring top performing African artists to New Zealand. For us this is a marathon and not a sprint”. With close to nine years of personal experience in New Zealand, Francois certainly seems to know what he is talking about. He also doubles as the PR for the African Community in Auckland.

What can the public expect from Motherland?

“At the moment we have three offerings, “Kilimanjaro”; which is a themed African nite out which will run monthly. The first “Kilimanjaro” will now launch on Sat 21st October at The Lounge Bar & Nite Club 51 High Street. Members of the public are kindly asked to make a note of the change in venue from our previous advertisement. Doors open from 8pm. We want to create a platform where friends can come and hang out and chat, the music is africanly contemporary leading to 10pm. During this time, if you have a piece of African music you may want to share with fellow Africans by all means bring it along. We can only take one request at a time though. Things pick up from 10pm right through till 3am.”

“Our second offering is Kiwi-Choma; an African style bbq. Many African countries have a nyama-choma in their countries of origin in one way or another. It happens in the summer time, with friends or complete strangers where there is a do it yourself kind of braai over proper firewood and not gas.

We would like to see how well the African community in Auckland responds to this starting on Sat 4th November 2006 at the Avondale Community Hall. Kiwi-Choma will heavily revolve around free kid’s entertainment to bring entire families out”.

For the young at heart, “Ebony” the exclusive R&B nite out you have been waiting for will launch on Friday 17th of November at a venue to be announced.

It would appear from the above that the African community should well served for entertainment going into the festive season this year. Motherland Promotions welcomes any input from the public.  François Byama can be contacted on mobile phone 0210367597 or e-mail byamana@yahoo.com.
